1998
League established with 20 teams and split into four divisions. West comprising of Fullerton, Calabasas, Sun City, Nuevo and Torrance. Central comprising of Arizona, Minnesota, Gold Coast, Fresno and Gettysburg. East comprising of Durham, Mount Cobb, Birmingham, Moosic Mountain and Baltimore. Atlantic comprising of Maryland, Cincinnati, Seaboard, Dayton and New Oxford. The divisional winners were Fullerton on a tie break with Calabasas both with 13-3 records, Arizona, Durham and Maryland who went on to win the first ever Super Bowl.

1999
Second season saw five changes of ownership with DC, Pennsylvania, Annapolis, Goleta and Parkside replacing Gold Coast, Gettysburg, Birmingham, Baltimore and New Oxford. As a result of the franchise relocations the divisions were re-aligned and this meant three new champions DC in the West, Nuevo on a tie break over Fullerton in the Central. Mount Cobb with another tie break over Cincinnati in the Atlantic whilst Arizona in the East went on to win the Super Bowl.

2000
Third season saw more divisional re-alignments and four changes of ownership with West Coast, Hawaii, Pacific and Bedford replacing DC, Maryland, Fullerton and Torrance. As a result there were four new division champions as Calabasas took the Central, Cincinnati the East. Atlantic Champions Pennsylvania went on to lose in the Super Bowl to the West Champions Nuevo.

The league was re-structured from 20 teams down to 16 with the creation of four new divisions named after legendary NFL coaches John Madden, Bill Walsh, Don Shula and Tom Landry. Madden consisting of West Coast, Nuevo, Durham and Sun City. Walsh consisting of Fullerton, Golden State, Hawaii and Cincinnati. Shula consisting of Moosic Mountain, Denver, Duluth and Mount Cobb. Landry consisting of Michigan, Campground, Memphis and Annapolis. Divisional winners were West Coast, Fullerton, Moosic Mountain and Michigan who went on to beat Fullerton in the Super Bowl.

2002
Four changes of ownership saw Golden State replaced by Palmetto, Denver replaced by Louisiana, Campground and Memphis replaced by Osage and Newark. It didn’t make any difference to the divisions as three of last year’s champions repeated, while Cincinnati in the Walsh went on to lose in the Super Bowl to West Coast. Michigan became the first team to win a division without a winning record 8-8

2003
Two changes of ownership in the Landry division with Osage and Newark replaced by Denver and New York. Division champions saw Durham triumph in the Madden, Mount Cobb 8-8 in Shula on a tie break over Duluth, Cincinnati in the Walsh and Michigan in Landry who also created another first, this time with a losing 7-9 record. The Super Bowl was contested for the first time ever by divisional rivals Durham and West Coast which Durham won.

2004
Denver replace Hawaii in the Walsh division as the Landry division underwent a major overhaul as Michigan, Newark, New York and Hawaii were replaced by Arizona, Midwest, Lakewood and Montreal. This resulted in three new divisional champions Fullerton on a 11-5 tie break with Cincinnati in the Walsh, Moosic Mountain in the Shula and Arizona in the Landry, Durham repeated in the Madden with a 16-0 record only to lose in the Super Bowl to Fullerton.

2005
This was the year for firsts as Durham won the Super Bowl for a second time beating Montreal as both went to the Championship game as wild card teams. West Coast won the Madden, Colorado won the Walsh 9-7 on a tie break over Fullerton, Moosic Mountain and Arizona 12-4 on a tie break over Montreal repeated with back to back titles. Only one franchise change as Cincinnati moved to San Francisco.

2006
Two new franchises entered the league with Hemet replacing Neuvo in Madden and Long Beach replacing Midwest in Landry. But in the end it was much of the same as Durham, Fullerton, Louisiana and Arizona won their respective division titles. However more league firsts as last year’s Super Bowl teams repeated with Durham again defeating Montreal for their third title in the last four Bowl game appearances.

2007
Third time lucky for Montreal as they defeated Durham in a repeat of the last two years Super Bowl, as the top team’s divisional dominance continues as Durham and Fullerton repeat while Montreal creates history with the first ever perfect season. Two franchise moves in the off season as Iowa replaced Denver in Walsh and Linden replaced Louisiana in Shula who then went on to win the division title.

2008
Major changes in the league as Riverside replaces Hemet in Madden. Iowa, Colorado and Duluth move to Landry, while Montreal and Long Beach move to Shula, Upland replace Florida and move to Walsh while Linden move to Walmey. All the changes make no difference to the leagues dominant teams as Durham, Fullerton, Montreal and Arizona win their respective divisions. Who was it that beat Montreal and prevented a three peat of perfect seasons as it was Nebraska who were their latest victims in the Super Bowl? More significant franchise moves as Tordondo replaced West coast in Madden which saw Riverside top for the first time. Montreal swapped divisions again now in the Walsh where Syracuse became Rocky Mountain. Shula had three new teams joining Moosic Mountain as Upland renamed and moved divisions to Warren who became champions, Long Beach to South Miami and Walmley to Florida. Landry went one better with all four teams moving to new cities Platte River division champions, Nebraska, Blue River and Harrison replacing the defunct teams of Arizona, Colorado, Iowa and Duluth.

A bit of a settled season after last year’s major upheavals with only two franchise moves as Fullerton relocated to South Shore in Walsh and Warren moved to Adams County in Shula. Tordondo, Moosic Mountain, Nebraska and Montreal win their respective divisions. The Montreal Super Bowl dominance continues as they sweep aside Nebraska for a fourth title in a row,

The leagues dynasty team continues to roll on despite three franchise moves in the champs division Rocky Mountain, South Shore and San Francisco replaced by Denver, Prescott and Oklahoma. These changes did not stop Montreal going back to the Super Bowl for the seventh time in a row but this time they were upset by wild card team Tordondo. Riverside, Florida and Nebraska with a 16-0 season take the other division titles.

2012
Only one franchise move as Vero Beach replace Sun City in Madden. Nothing much changed either at the top as Florida, Nebraska and Montreal all won their respective divisions. Tordondo toppled Riverside, but it was that team again Montreal who found a way back to winning ways in the Super Bowl this time defeating Nebraska.

Montreal become 6 time Champions after appearing in the last 9 Super Bowls, quite a feat as they down fellow division winners Vero Beach a 10-6 tie break over Tordondo. Whilst Florida and Blue River win their respective divisions. Treviso and Pittsburgh replace the Prescott and Oklahoma franchises in Walsh.

2014
A Super Bowl final without Montreal is a rarity, as two wild card teams Washington and Platte River shock the division title winners Durham, Denver on a 11-5 tie break over Montreal, South Miami and Nebraska to contest the Super Bowl, which Platte River wins. Washington were last year’s Vero Beach and Columbia moved from Adams County.

2015
Six new franchises join the league London, Fort Collins, Walla Walla, KSU, River City and Lothlorien following the loss of Montreal, Washington, Riverside, Plattsburgh, Denver and Harrison. It was new boys London that surprised everyone by taking the Madden division and then went on to win the Super Bowl title as they beat fellow division title winners Treviso. South Miami and Nebraska repeated last year’s division title success.

2016
Two off season franchise moves saw Fort Collins replaced by Cincinnati and Walla Walla replaced by Denver. The changes made little difference to the division titles as London, Treviso and South Miami repeated last year’s success while Blue River took the Landry. However it was Treviso that made history by becoming only the second team to record a perfect season as they get revenge over London in the Super Bowl.

2017
A sad note to start the season as the league lost Patrick, long time commissioner of the AFA. The current league members unanimously decided to rename the league in his honour to the Patrick Benningfield Memorial League.
There were two off season franchise moves in Madden which saw London and Tordondo replaced by Carolina and Brasher Falls, Durham took that division title along with Treviso, Moosic Mountain and Lothlorien. Treviso made it back to back Super Bowl wins defeating wild card team Nebraska.

2018
Columbia and Carolina loose there franchises as Lexington and London who return after a season out replace them. It was all change at the top of three divisions as London, KSU and South Miami took the titles, Lothlorien made it three in a row taking Landry. It was division rivals all the way this year as London beat Durham in the Super Bowl after they had both beaten Treviso and KSU respectively in the semi-finals.

2019
Complete divisional realignment with the arrival of four new franchises KSU moving to St. Louis, Rocky Mountain moving to Valley, with Moosic Mountain moving across the pond to Birmingham only to see them quickly return as they took over Lexington. With the newly created divisions it meant three new divisional champions in Treviso, St. Louis and Durham whilst Lothlorien made it four in a row. The seasons top two teams contested the Super Bowl and it proved first time lucky for Lothlorien as they took the crown.

2020
Three off season franchise moves which saw South Miami relocate to New Orleans, Lothlorien moved to Savannah bringing in a new head coach while long time stalwarts Moosic Mountain moving to Cabot Cove and pulled a master stroke by coaxing the league commissioner out of retirement. Treviso and Durham retained their divisional crowns whilst Valley and Nebraska topped their respective divisions, all of them contested the semi finals with the two lowest seeds making it through to the Super Bowl, where Nebraska #4 beat Treviso #3 in overtime.

2021
Moosic Mountain's return is short lived as they replace Cabot Cove in the off season only for the move and ownership to fall through. New Orleans get a new head coach who is now in charge of his third team in three years and in doing so moves the team to Homestead a sports strong hold for baseball.
Other notable league facts
In the 23 seasons of the league there is now only one franchise Durham that has played in every season, during which time there have been 89 different franchise cities.
Montreal twice and Treviso once are the only teams to have had a perfect season, though Durham and Nebraska have both come close.
In 2005 Denver became the first and only team to record a 0-16 season, next worst being Moosic Mountain who went 1-15 in the 2000 season and then went back to back 14-2 seasons.
There have only been two tied games both involving Durham, 2005 with Florida and 2009 with Moosic Mountain.
Of all the current teams here are a few milestones to end this summary Blue River need 1 more win to notch up 100 whilst Treviso need 8. London needs 4 more to reach 50. Platte River has a 50% record after 12 seasons.
